Whitby Schemes Summer Fair Is Out Of This World

Staff and the people they support at the Whitby Scheme had a fantastic time at their Summer Fair on Saturday afternoon, enjoying a huge range of fun activities and a special appearance from an out of this world visitor - none other than a life-size Dalek!

19 August 2010

The Whitby Scheme is owned and operated by Craegmoor which supports around 4,000 people with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and mental health problems, as well as older people across the UK.

The Summer Fair took place at the Whitby Scheme's Anchor House service on the North Promenade. Everyone who attended got to take part in a great range of activities including a hook-a-duck stall, a barbeque, a cake stall, a guess the baby competition and many other events. The undoubted highlight of the day was when the Scheme's Manager and Deputy Manager, Nicki Craig and Julie Broadley, went into the stocks dressed as giant dalmations and were pelted with wet sponges.

Other activities included a raffle, featuring many prizes donated by local businesses and an auction of artwork and pottery pieces created by local artists and the people supported by the Whitby Scheme alike. The monies raised will help to fund a trip to Blackpool for the people supported by the Whitby Scheme, an annual event that has proven hugely popular with participants in past years.

Nicki Craig, The Whitby Scheme Manager said;

"Everyone had a brilliant time at the Summer Fair and it was lovely that our neighbours and even passers-by were able to come in and join the fun.

"It was really funny being in the stocks! Not only did we raise a lot of money, but Julie and I found it quite refreshing on such a beautiful summer afternoon!"
