Thank you for saving our allotment!
A popular allotment in Trowbridge has been secured for the future by a leading provider of support for people with an autistic spectrum condition and learning disabilities.
29th July 2010
The allotment was being sold by the Church and there were fears that a developer might snap it up. However, national support provider Craegmoor, which owns and operates The Old Rectory service in Trowbridge, stepped in to buy the allotment and protect it from development.
Individuals living at The Old Rectory use the allotment every day. They plant, grow and harvest their own fruit and vegetables and also keep chickens there. These activities enable people to develop life skills and improve their self-confidence, as well as providing a wonderful supply of fresh home-grown ingredients.
Teresa Hibbs, the Registered Manager of The Old Rectory, was delighted to learn that the allotment's future has been secured;
"Everyone at the Old Rectory is so happy that we can keep our beautiful allotment. When we first started looking after it over 7 years ago, it was disused and run down. With the hard work and enjoyment of the people we support, the allotment is flourishing and I'm delighted that we can continue to look after it - and so are the chickens!"
Sarah Hughes, Divisional Managing Director, Specialist Central and Colleges said;
"We believe passionately that, by encouraging people to have control and belief in their own abilities, and offering them the right level of support, we can enable people to achieve their goals. The allotment is enjoyed by everyone at The old Rectory so I am really pleased that we were able to save it"
