Suffolk Care Home Hailed As A Leading Light On Dignity In Care Day

Craegmoor's The Orwell in Wherstead, Ipswich - which provides nursing and residential care for 38 older people - has been recognised as the best service of its kind in the area as part of the annual Pride of Craegmoor Awards. The presentation of the 'Leading Light Award' on Thursday 25th February suitably coincided with Dignity in Care Day - a national event that aims to promote the dignity of people receiving care.

Every year Craegmoor looks to recognise and celebrate excellence across the wide range of support services it provides. The key criteria for selecting a Leading Light include, first and foremost, positive outcomes for the people the service supports and also professionalism, innovation, energy and fun. Judges for the awards also look to see that the individuals the service provides support for are actively involved in working together with team members to achieve these positive outcomes.

To celebrate the award win, The Orwell held a special afternoon tea party that brought together residents, their families and friends, staff and members of the community. A duo of guitarists provided relaxing background music as people happily chatted and shared the delicious buffet of cakes and gateaux prepared by the kitchen team.

Alongside the award presentation, Paul Millar and Hayley Nessing from Ipswich Building Society were on-hand to present The Orwell with a Wii console and lots of accessories. People quickly began playing on the new console and enjoyed themselves so much that they were still playing at 7pm! They also took the opportunity to talk about their sporting memories and achievements.

The Orwell's Manager, Sarah Kopferschmitt, said:

"We were all so excited and proud to win the Area Leading Light Award. The tea party was a wonderful way to celebrate the win and to mark Dignity in Care Day. We've been working so hard to create a warm and homely environment for the people we support and it's really paid-off."

Craegmoor's Chief Financial Officer, David Manson, who attended the event said:

"I'm so proud of all of the team at The Orwell. They are so passionate about enabling people to lead the life they want to lead. It's a real privilege for me to be able to recognise their achievement and at the same time celebrate Dignity in Care Day."
