Local Woman Recognised For Outstanding Achievement By West Suffolk College
The Home Manager at Craegmoor's Kalmia & Mallow service in Watton, which provides residential support for individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, has won a prestigious award from West Suffolk College. Nanette Phillips won the 'Partnerships in Care' Award for Best All Round Progress on an NVQ Course.
8th July 2010
Of 19,000 students, only the 57 award winners have the opportunity to attend the annual prize giving ceremony, which this year was held at St Edmundsbury Cathedral on the evening of Monday 28th June. Prize winners and their families enjoyed wine and canapés at the event, which was hosted by Betty Milburn MBE, the Chair of Governors and Dr Ann Williams, the College's Principal. The keynote speaker on the night was Dr Andy Wood, Managing Director of Adnams Brewery and Chairman of Choose Suffolk Tourism Partnership.
Nanette has worked at Kalmia & Mallow, which has a 3-Star 'Excellent' Rating from the Care Quality Commission, for five years. With Craegmoor's support she has progressed from Night Support Worker, through to the Deputy Manager role to Manager of the service. In fact, she celebrates her second anniversary as the service's Manager this Friday 2nd July.
Throughout her time at Kalmia & Mallow Nanette has sought to continue her education in order to provide the best support possible for the people supported by the service. She is currently completing a Level 4 NVQ in Leadership and Management for Care Services and it is for her outstanding progress on this course that she has been recognised.
Speaking about the Award, Nanette said;
"I was honoured to receive this Award and it was lovely to be treated like a princess for a night. The whole event was a wonderful experience and I'm still glowing now!
"Working at Kalmia & Mallow is a pleasure and a privilege. The biggest reward for me is seeing the people my team and I support achieving their goals, although this award is also a lovely bonus! Craegmoor really encourages and supports individuals and staff to flourish and I feel like I'm the living proof."
Sarah Hughes, Divisional Managing Director Specialist Central and Colleges, said:
"Nanette's achievement is really fantastic and I'm delighted to see that recognised by West Suffolk College. Making it possible for people to achieve the utmost from life is what Craegmoor is all about and my sincere congratulations go to Nanette on this great achievement."
