Local Mp Visits Melling Acres

Last Wednesday (1st September) local MP Bill Esterson visited Melling Acres, a brand new residential service for people with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum conditions and mental health problems.

8th September 2010

The service is owned and operated by Craegmoor, which provides support for around 4,000 people across the UK with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and mental health problems.

Bill Esterson MP, who became Member of Parliament for Sefton Central in June, was given a tour of the service which is set in picturesque woodland on Giddygate Lane in Melling. In total, Melling Acres provides support for 18 adults in a safe and homely environment. The focus, as with all Craegmoor services, is on offering the level of support people choose to enable them to achieve their goals.

The visit offered an ideal opportunity to see how local people are receiving this support and learn about the important work that the team at Melling Acres does. Mr Esterson enjoyed a relaxed and informative morning, chatting to the staff at the service.

Phil Pitchford, Service Manager at Melling Acres, said:

"It was great to be able to show off our new facilities to someone who clearly has a real awareness of the need for specialist support services of this type. We're passionate about breaking down barriers to enable people to achieve the most from life, and it is great to let people know about the support Craegmoor provides."

Bill Esterson MP comments:

"It was fascinating to learn about the service provided at Melling Acres. Services like these provide an essential role, helping to support some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. I'd like to thank everyone at Melling Acres for such an interesting and enjoyable visit."
