Kerry Mccarthy Visits Evergreen
This Tuesday (31st August) Kerry McCarthy MP visited Evergreen, which provides residential support for individuals with learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, dementia and autism in the Brentry area of Bristol.
6th September 2010
Evergreen is run by Craegmoor, a leading independent provider of support for people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health problems and complex needs, as well as older people.
Kerry McCarthy is the Member of Parliament for Bristol East, and also the Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions with responsibility for disability issues. As part of her remit for disability issues, Ms McCarthy is working with the Adults with Learning Disabilities Services (ALDS) Forum to learn more about best practice. The visit to Evergreen provided an ideal opportunity to see how local people are receiving the support they need to achieve positive outcomes. Whilst learning about the important work that the team at Evergreen does Ms McCarthy also enjoyed a relaxed and informative morning, chatting to the people that Evergreen supports.
Service Manager Sue Thompson said:
"It was great to have Kerry visit Evergreen and everyone here really enjoyed meeting her. Our staff work really hard to provide the best possible support, so it's fantastic to have an opportunity to talk about the wonderful people we support and the work we do."
Kerry McCarthy MP comments:
"I really enjoyed meeting the people Craegmoor supports and talking to the staff about the challenges involved in delivering such services. I was particularly impressed by how dedicated the staff were to their work, and how much the people enjoyed living at Evergreen."
