Many older people who use Craegmoor’s services and staff from across South Yorkshire came together with members of the local community on Thursday 27th August to compete for prizes in an “It’s A Knockout” - themed fun and sports day in Rotherham.

Craegmoor – who support older people and people living with learning disabilities and mental illnesses to enable them to have control over their own lives – organised a day of activities at its Bolton Hall on Carrhead Lane, Bolton-on-Dearne. The day included armchair aerobics, games of bullseye, green bowls and skittles.

To add to the fun, Craegmoor staff donned fancy dress and competed in their own game of armchair aerobics, with everyone involved competing to win the award for the best decorated hat and flag. Following music, food and drinks, prizes were handed out to all winners, with Craegmoor’s ‘The Willows’ service in Chesterfield triumphing for its flag design.

Avril Evans, Craegmoor’s Divisional Managing Director - Older People, said:

Craegmoor always wants to give people the confidence to try new things and have different experiences and that is what the day’s events were all about. We wanted to celebrate life in an imaginative way, create a sense of team spirit and make a real difference to the lives of everyone who uses our services .”

Sandra Galloway MBE, Clinical Manager of Craegmoor’s Richmond Heights service in Sheffield and organiser of the day’s events, said:

The staff working at and individuals using our services, as well as the local community, all had a fantastic time and lots of fun, and that’s what the event was all about. We’re now looking forward to next year and to making the next event even bigger!
