Guide to choosing care and support

Making the right decisions

Making the decision to choose care and support for yourself or a loved one is never an easy task and its often not helped by the need for a quick decision arising in a crisis situation whether that comes from an accident, loss of a carer, etc.

We know how important it is to you to make the right decision when it comes to ensuring that people you care about and your loved ones are getting the care and support they require, so that's why we've included the following links to some independent organisations and their guides on choosing care.

The Commission for Social Care Inspection is the regulatory authority responsible for ensuring high standards of health and social care across the country. They provide an excellent resource for choosing and finding care which can be accessed from the following links.

Age Concern is the national charity responsible for providing direct help to over a million older people each year - allowing them to live as independently as possible for as long as possible. They produce a factsheet which we believe you will find useful when trying to decide on choosing care for older people.

We also think that you will find the guide on how to get help from Social Services from the Mencap website really useful. Mencap is a national charity that provides advice and support to meet the needs of people with a learning disability throughout their lives.
